If you’ve read my bio, you know that I spend months researching, questioning my choice and worrying about whether my business would actually succeed. 14+ years later, I can confidently say that it was one of the best professional decisions I’ve made.
Back when I started, the term “virtual assistant” was not common, so I spent a lot of time explaining what it was. Fast-forward to today and the virtual assistant industry has grown like crazy and it’s one of the least expensive legit home-businesses to start. Small business owners are well aware of the advantages of virtual business support.

Sound too easy? That’s the point. You DO NOT need to make it complicated. This is the straight-forward approach to get your business set up. While each main topic in the list has several steps, the point is that in order to have your business ready to officially launch and take on new clients, you don’t have to have every tiny detail in place first. For example, you may have a basic marketing plan, but the detailed strategy and marketing materials can wait. Marketing is an ongoing process that will need to be adjusted as trends change, as you build your business and as you learn what does and what does not work so don’t dedicate too much time to the nitty gritty right now.

Virtual Assistant Client Agreement
I learned over the years that it is rare to have a new client that knows up front more than a handful of tasks they need you to manage. Not only that, but they often don’t have much detail prepared as far as how those tasks will be accomplished. Therefore a detailed proposal did not work. This agreement is simple and to the point and in 14+ years I have never had a client question the content or express concerns. It is that easy to understand.

My clients look to me to help them understand how to utilize my services. They rely on me to tell them what I need to accomplish tasks and to share best practices for working with a virtual assistant.
Being in the position of knowing what does and does not work has so many benefits and I will share two that I find extremely beneficial.

My career in the virtual assistant industry has been very rewarding. It is not a get rich quick home business opportunity. It takes work to establish yourself and to develop a reputation for reliable and quality work. At the same time, you are your own boss and you’re making your own hours!
